If you're in the final year of high school or you're considering going to uni, then you'll already know that your academics are central to your long-term career ambitions. Here, we look at some of the great study apps that can give you the edge during exam time.
If you're gearing up for those end-of-high school exams or you're considering going to university, you'll know all about how hard studying can be. Now, there's no magic formula for learning success, and it's never going to be a breeze, right? However, the great news is that the smartphone in your bag isn't just for watching TikTok videos and can also be a great study tool.
Mum and Dad often tell you that you're lucky to live in an age where technology has made things easier for us in so many ways. You might be tired of hearing it, but it is kind of true, and it's why there's a whole bunch of awesome study apps that can make studying even the dullest subjects easy.
In this blog, we look at the range of apps for iPhones and Android mobiles, like Samsung Galaxy Folds, that make studying as easy as watching YouTube videos - and most are even free! We'll also cover how the Wandr platform can help you make sense of what career direction to take so that you can make sense of all those appealing options.
So, let's dive in and see the apps that can give you learning superpowers!
A Range of Apps Are Just a Couple of Clicks Away
Head to Google Play or the iPhone App Store, and you'll find a lot of educational apps that can help your study techniques to the next level. We don't favour iPhones or Android mobiles here, so whatever you have is cool, as they're available for both.
- Quizlet (Flashcards, Tests & Games)
The first study app we look at is Quizlet, which offers a selection of study modes, including games, tests and flashcards. It's highly interactive and user-friendly while catering to many learning styles. For learning and revision purposes, it makes what can be boring topics engaging.
The app also lets students create their own study sets or access shared sources in line with your syllabus and curriculum. It's available for your laptop, meaning you can sync everything up, so you're covered whether you're studying at home or on the go.
- Microsoft OneNote (Note-Taking & Organisation)
One of the great things about our next study app - Microsoft OneNote - is that it integrates with the Microsoft systems which many schools across Australia. It’s an excellent app for note-taking in lectures and organising what's written down. Different digital notebooks for different subjects can be created, and audio notes created.
PDFs can be annotated, too, with seamless switching between devices, giving you a comprehensive study experience. If you're looking to streamline your study materials, it might be the one for you.
- Anki (Flashcards - Great For Info Memorisation)
If you've got tons of facts that need to be memorised, then Anki is a good study app to consider. Using spaced repetition for heavy memorisation helps you retain facts and figures for the long term. It’s another of the smartphone apps that can be customised in line with curriculums in Australia.
Letting you create your own flashcards, particularly useful in language and medical topics, it’s a popular choice for students, with syncing across all devices also made easy.
- My Study Life (Exam Timetables/Assignments)
Need help managing your assignments or exam timetables? My Study Life makes it easy, as it’s designed to replace those paper planners that can get lost or coffee split over them, right? With everything stored on the cloud, you're never going to be in a position where it's lost.
If you're studying for VET courses or going through university, you'll likely be juggling various commitments, and this app can be a real game-changer.
- Forest (Concentration Aid)
Do you have trouble with maintaining concentration? If so, you're not on your own, as there are so many distractions, such as TikTok videos and Twitter, out there. Forest is an app that can help you with that, and it does so in a visual way - planting a virtual tree that grows as you study. When you leave the app to check social media it starts to die - providing an incentive not to.
This app uses gamification to enhance focus and productivity, keeping you on track with your study schedule and stopping you from having to cram it all in during the last few weeks.
These are just a selection of the apps out there to help you study, no matter which way you intend your training to go. What's more, they are pretty much all free to download and use, so get out there and start experimenting with them to see which is best for you.
